The ignition system on your Johnson outboard boat motor is centered on the power pack. The power pack provides voltage to the ignition system's power coils. A defective or dead power pack can cause troubles starting your Johnson outboard. To check a Johnson Power Pack, connect each of the multimeter's leads to the ends of the orange wires that flow from the power packs to the ignition coils connect the positive to the orange wires and the negative to the ignition coil's negative terminal (-). A voltage reading of at least 150V is required.
